At Uni I noticed a lack of opportunity in early years on my course to practice team development so created a society for it! We made a couple games before lockdown hit, it was a really fun time!
I ran lots of events both in person and online remote to allow those interested to create games quickly. Events ran on a Friday afternoon to allow us to work on most of it that day and use Saturdays to clean up and polish any issues ready for testing and release on Sundays.
I created a breadth of documentation on resources of game creation and tutorials in order to allow members to play with game dev as much as possible outside especially where they weren’t on a game related course and ensured it was as accessible as could be using tools like Twine and Processing to allow users a shorter learning curve to get right into development.
We ran 2 successful major events, and a few smaller socials, but due to the lockdown and increasing workload in later years of University, it became quite difficult to run. However the society survives under new students who have taken over and it seems to be creating a really positive impact for them!
